When you launch a campaign across multiple areas of a social platform, a universal rule often fails. For example, the ideal aspect ratio for a Story differs completely from a standard Newsfeed post. To accommodate these nuances, you can establish brand rules that apply only to specific placements. Let's explore how to customize these parameters for exact evaluation.
Step 1: Understand Placement Mechanics
You can assign distinct criteria to different areas of the same platform. If you mandate a 9:16 ratio for Stories and a 4:5 ratio for Feeds, the system applies the exact guideline definition required for the specific area where the ad appears. You can still review aggregate performance data for the overall rule alongside the specific placement breakdown.
Step 2: Review Supported Platforms
At this time, placement-specific rules only apply to Facebook and Instagram. The platform evaluates the following specific areas:
| Publisher | Supported Placements |
|---|---|
| Stories, Feed, Reels, Instant Article, Marketplace, Right-Hand Column, Search, Search Serp, Suggested Video, Video Feeds, Groups Feed, Instream Video, Unknown | |
| Audience Network | A Classic, Rewarded Video, Instream Video |
| Messenger | Inbox, Stories |
| Feed, Reels, Explore, Stories |
Step 3: Request Rule Creation
Because these parameters require custom definitions, you cannot build them directly in the dashboard. Contact your Account Manager or email support@creativex.com to request rule adjustments.
Step 4: Execute Campaign Evaluations
How the system applies these rules depends on the campaign phase:
- In-Flight: The system automatically determines the placement data based on the live ad setup and evaluates the post accordingly.
- Pre-Flight: The user must manually specify the intended placement in the evaluation request. If the user skips this step, the system evaluates the asset against the general publisher rules instead.
Troubleshooting
Did you encounter a roadblock with your placement rules?
- Inaccurate Pre-Flight Scores: If an asset fails a rule incorrectly before launch, check your submission details. You likely forgot to select the specific placement, which caused the system to apply a general rule.
- Absent Platforms: If you want to restrict rules by placement on YouTube or TikTok, the system currently does not support this feature. You must evaluate these platforms at the general channel level.
